GUWAHATI: Guwahati Municipality Corporation (GMC) is all set for a revenue collection drive in a war-footing manner. Presently, 2,41,483 property tax defaulters have been identified.

Meanwhile, the GMC has taken up several initiatives to collect pending dues from those defaulters.

In this connection, a stringent plan was socked out in a meeting held on 14-03-2022 at the Conference Hall of GMC office, Uzanbazar, chaired by the Additional Commissioner, GMC.

It was decided to incorporate all the verticals of GMC including NULM, GMC. Community Organizer (C.O.) and Community Resource Person (CRP) under NULM, GMC. These will help to strengthen the movement by carrying out miking and door-to-door campaigns in the city.

Common Service Centers (CSC) has also come up for the drive. They will be helping GMC in the collection of its revenue through its various centers located across various parts of Guwahati city.

A banner will be displayed at CSC centres to create awareness amongst taxpayers who can visit those centres for payment of property tax etc.

CSC will act as a "Digital army" for GMC by providing requisite information and helping in payment procedures of tax.

Accordingly, a "Google meet" was held today on 17th March 2022 by Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) chaired by the Additional Commissioner, GMC and co-chaired by Joint Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners of GMC with the officials of GMC and members of Common Service Centre (CSC) to come up in mission mode for collection of tax for the current financial year 2021-2022.

In today's meeting, CSC members joined and showed full support to GMC.

They showed a very positive and pro-active response towards the movement. The database of Defaulters of property tax has been shared already with CSC members with mobile numbers.

They will call defaulters as a reminder for payment of tax and intimate penalty provisions that will be imposed for payment post 31st March 2022.

GMC has also assured to integrate services of CSC permanently with GMC for which an MOU will be signed in coming days.
